Suggestive trekking in the lower Maremma accompanied by an expert guide, along Fiora River which descends from Mount Amiata towards the valley through the territories of upper Lazio in the municipalities of Canino and Ischia di Castro (VT) to discover two suggestive excavated rock monasteries in the rock: the Hermitage of Poggio Conte and the Hermitage of Ripatonna Cicognina.
The route begins by climbing the Olpeta stream, one of the tributaries of the Fiora, for about 800 meters along a flat path between woods and open fields until you reach the tufaceous wall where one of the most fascinating and mysterious hermitages of the Maremma was built in the Middle Ages.
The itinerary will then continue along the Fiora River, entering the woods to reach a gorge; on the bottom appears an overhanging tuff wall and a waterfall which makes the place seem unreal. On the left are the church and the residence of the hermit who lived here during the 11th Century.
