A tour to discover the evocative complex consisting of the ruins of the great Abbey of San Galgano and the Hermitage of Montesiepi and the most famous historical religious figures in Medieval Tuscany.
We are talking about the noble knight of Chiusdino, Galgano Guidotti, famous for having abandoned his dissolute life and for having transformed his weapon "the sword" into an instrument of peace and redemption. The evident echo of the myth of King Arthur (who had nevertheless extracted the sword from the stone while San Galgano was the one who inserted it) did not fail to arouse curiosity by increasing interest in the saint from Chiusdino and for this enchanting place.
The Hermitage of Montesiepi built between 1182 and 1185, (above the hut on the hill where San Galgano lived) houses the famous sword that he would have stuck in the rock as a sign of renouncing the sinful life and also houses some wonderful frescoes by Ambrogio Lorenzetti.
The meeting place with the guide is the cemetery parking lot. From here, the tour begins towards the suggestive Cistercian Abbey of San Galgano and on to the short uphill path to the Hermitage of Montesiepi.
After a short transfer by car, the guided tour continues in the town of Chiusdino where we will visit the birthplace of San Galgano and the museum dedicated to him.
