Perched on the hills in the wonderful Val di Cornia a few kilometers from the coast, two of the most fascinating medeival historical centers of the Livorno Maremma stand out: Campiglia Marittima and Suvereto.
The itinerary, in the company of an expert archeologist and guide, starts in the historic center of Campiglia Marittima with a visit to the imposing Palazzo della Rocca and on to explore the narrow streets of the village characterized by "tower houses" that can still be seen today among the modern buildings.
The tour ends at the parish church of San Giovanni, outside the village, on a breathtaking terrace overlooking the Val di Cornia.
After a short drive, it's possible to continue your visit to the historic center of Suvereto with a walk to the Rocca and the village below where there are numerous historic buildings including the convent of San Francesco, and where today many wineries and taverns open for tasting typical products.
